My Thoughts Today

I had the great honor and privlidge today of being on the radio in Eugene OR, Toledo OH, Huntington WV, and Cincinnati. And everyone of those hosts were gracious and supported our troops to the fullest. But this evening I happened to talk to a woman who’s husband was a Vietnam Veteran. It is these chance encounters that we hold so precious, that we personalize. To all of those that have served, to all of those that have a spouse or family member that served, and for those spouses and family members that have sacrificed as well… thank you. Your sacrifices will never be forgotten here. Thank God that, unlike Vietnam, today Americans differentiate their opinion of the wars from those brave men and women that fight them. God bless America. And God bless all those that have put their lives on the line for her. I am forever in your debt.

Many of the lessons I have learned in life come from my father, a veteran of WW2 and Korea. They may be from generations ago but they remain just as valid today. Veterans are put in extraordinary situations and must survive. Surely we all can learn from their experiences, regardless of our polical perspectives. Mr. Panzarella has hit upon something, we should be focusing more on the young men & women returning from a truly unique and dangerous environment. They protected us, now how do we help protect them?

Mr. Panzarella – First, let me say “Thank You,” to all the Vietnam Veterans. As you know, there are those of us that always have, and still appreciate their service and recognize their sacrifice. I’m glad you had the opportunity to speak with the wife of a Vietnam Veteran. I did not get to hear your conversation, but I’m sure she was appreciative of the time you took to listen, and for her to get her message out. While we may never know what it is like to walk in someone else’s shoes, taking the time to really listen provides a truer understanding.
Keep up the good work, voicing your support for our brave young men and women throughout our military services. War will always be a source of political and social contention, but our troops always seem to rise above and carry out their training and missions with commitment and honor. Not to say that their are not missteps along the way, war isn’t pretty, but I’m darn proud of the job they do.
One last note, “American Horse” was a powerful book. It is not one of those books that will fade from my memory.

    Jim
